A person's ability to safely feed herself has direct implications for the plan of care, especially determining the need for and type of additional services and potential length of the home care episode. Is an evaluation for safe swallowing indicated? Should the patient be evaluated for the use of adaptive devices? Is someone available to assist? Are home health aide services indicated? What are the associated teaching needs for the patient, the family, or caregivers?
