It takes both observation and interview to fully assess a person's ability to ambulate or propel in a wheelchair. There are very specific response options that you should be familiar with. You're assessing a person's ability either to ambulate (once in a standing position) or to propel herself in a wheelchair (once in a seated position) on a variety of surfaces. If your patient combines ambulation and wheelchair use for mobility, assess her ability to ambulate.
