Interview is the term commonly used to describe the process for determining, clarifying, or confirming objective or concrete information. Different clinicians apply different types or styles of interview while conducting a comprehensive assessment, depending on their comfort with the patient and home setting and their usual or preferred interview style. Some clinicians use more than one style while others almost always resort to direct questioning. This lesson describes three particular interview strategies that are effective for assessment: direct questioning, guided conversation, and focused conversation.
