ARTHUR
You have a very lovely home, Mrs. Stone. And I've noticed that you have a lot of really nice pictures. Is this a photo of you and your husband at a wedding?

MRS. STONE
Yes. This was our youngest daughter's. And every kid you see there in that picture are our grandchildren.

ARTHUR
Wow!

MRS. STONE
They wear me out. But I miss them so much when they're back in California.

ARTHUR
Yeah, family is really important, isn't it?

MRS. STONE
Yes. And now, everyone is just so worried about their Papa. Sid's having a hard time, what with not sleeping and all. But this home health care is really great. I had surgery about 2 years ago and I don't think it was available then. But Sid's still not too sure about it. He thought that he would just bounce right back and start doing things right away. It's too soon, I told him, just how old do you think you are? You see, my brother had the same thing and it took him, oh, close to a year before he was right again. But Sid, he likes to go down for coffee every morning. And then every afternoon he'd take his walk. But now, since the cancer...well, I'm just really glad that you're here to help lend a hand with him.

ARTHUR
I'm glad to be here, Mrs. Stone, and I know it's been difficult. But one of the reasons why I'm here is to just see how he's doing, and to see just how we can get him, well, actually the both of you, back to the activities that you both like to do.

MRS. STONE
Uh huh.

MR. STONE
So you're my nurse.

ARTHUR
Well, yes I am. Hi, I'm Arthur. It's a pleasure to meet you, sir. Please, won't you sit down?

(Mr. Stone walks to his chair and sits. Arthur remains standing.)

MR. STONE
Every day for years, I'm up by six, I get my coffee, watch the news. But now, now I feel lucky if I'm out of bed by noon.

MRS. STONE
You see, Arthur? I told you. What am I to do with him?

ARTHUR
Well, what I've heard from Dr. Cohen when he asked me to come by to talk to you, he said you were really having an awful time in the last few weeks. Well, like I was telling Mrs. Stone while we were waiting, one of the reasons why I'm here is to just make sure that you're doing okay around the house. Now, I don't want to take up a lot of your time and I definitely don't want to tire you out, but there is some information that we need to go over that will help you to know what to expect of your recovery. Now, I will be checking your blood pressure and your pulse like the nurse did in the hospital or in the doctor's office. We could do this in, oh, about an hour or so, is that okay?

MR. STONE
Oh, that's fine.

ARTHUR
Well, I'll be looking and listening to everything you tell me about how you move around the house. We'll be reviewing your medicines to see how you're taking them. Does that sound okay with you? Can you help me out there? If you can, just feel free to let me know when you get too tired or uncomfortable, okay? I will be coming over more than once, so we don't have to decide right now about, you know, what we're going to do. But, just to let you know that we don't have to take care of everything all today. We can take it one step at a time, okay?

MR. STONE
That's fine with me. You know, I wasn't sure why you were coming here. Everything in the hospital was so confusing when they try to get you out the door. Now that I'm home, I don't remember what they told me. I can't sleep, I'm not hungry, and now this new medicine...

ARTHUR
Yeah, we definitely could talk about that, and I will help you with that. But for a moment, if you please, I would like to talk about our services, your patient rights, what your responsibilities are, about confidentiality, and to see if you have any initial questions before we leave, how does that sound?

ARTHUR
Well, good. Mrs. Stone, do you have those insurance cards laid out for me?

MRS. STONE
Oh, yes, I'll get them.

ARTHUR
Thank you.
