RUTH
I'd like to take a minute and check on your breathing, Mr. Morris, just to make sure that your congestion is clearing up. And you mentioned something about a cough that's hard to clear up?
MR. MORRIS
Always has been, but now that the pneumonia has settled in these days, it's a little bit more harder [sic], but I get by.
RUTH
Okay. (Hmmmm. Lots of crackles, both sides, even at rest, rate about 22. Puffing a little bit just sitting here. Sure is a long way to the kitchen. I wonder how far away the bathroom is. Maybe he doesn't get very far. Most of his life seems to be sitting on that TV tray.)
Okay, Mr. Morris, sounds a little noisy in there. I'm going to check your lungs and your heartbeat each time I visit. But I think, just as important, I need to know how you manage. So, you know, how is it, like, every time you fix a meal? How does that go? And also, what I was listening to in there, it sounds like you can get a little out of breath. So, do you ever get tired or out of breath as you walk in and out of the kitchen or the bathroom?
MR. MORRIS
Well, I don't do a lot. I got my tray right here with my remote on it. And after breakfast I usually bring my coffee and my water in here. I don't do much these days. I just sit around. Feel kind of washed out.
RUTH
Maybe this is a good time to check on that. You've been sitting here for a little while, while I was checking your lungs and the swelling of your feet, so why don't we walk into the kitchen? That's where you said you laid out the medicine, right?
MR. MORRIS
Yes.
RUTH
Okay, and so we'll check on those, and we'll check on what your routines are and also, maybe, we'll check on the effects on your breathing as you move in and about the house. And another thing, what about the groceries? Do you...who did you say actually goes out and does shopping for you?
MR. MORRIS
Well, my niece comes by...
