The Conditions of Participation require agencies to electronically transmit OASIS data to the State agency or other entity designated by CMS. Once the assessment has been completed and OASIS data collected, agencies must enter the information, a process known as encoding. Software for encoding data must conform to CMS specifications and is available from CMS or software vendors. Once the OASIS data are encoded, reviewed, and edited as needed, the patient record is transmitted to the State agency. Additional edits will require corrections to be filed.
